We would like to welcome you to Durham University Russian Society (DURS). We are excited to announce that as a result of your great interest at the Freshers' Fair last week, we have added 120 new names to our member list, and it is a fantastic start of the year for all of us!
This year we will continue to be part of RussianStudents.net. This portal unites the most active Russian speaking communities across the UK universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Bath, Warwick, Edinburgh,etc. As part of this portal, we will not only have access to monetary funding of certain events, but will be also presented with a number of recruitment opportunities in leading institutions in CIS, both for internship and graduate opportunities. As an example, our members were previously recruited by Deloitte Moscow, and this year we are planning to bring more opportunities for our active members to be noticed and hired.
Our first event will take place in the next two weeks, with time and dates to be confirmed. It will take the form of the informal networking evening, where society members will get a chance to meet each other and the exec team. We will very much appreciate if you raise any questions, ideas and suggestions about Society’s future events. If you have not joined the society yet, you will also be able to sign up and get your membership card for £3/year or £8/lifetime.
What are our plans for this year? To name a few, the plans for this term so far include film nights, big vodka-tasting party and weekly meetings at City Pub. But we are open for suggestions, and if you have any particular event in your mind – PLEASE DO CONTACT US! During the 2nd term we will hold our biggest event of the year – 3rd Annual Russian Winter Festival with loads of food, drinks, souvenirs, actors, performances and many many more exciting things. Previously, we had seen around a 1000guests at the Festival, and hope we can increase numbers this year, as we have got so many enthusiastic members!
We are looking forward for a great and active year of Russia in Durham!
